York Varsity

varsity11:57:08 PM: York Varsity kicks off Saturday with Climbing at 10am.

12:43:56 PM: Ok, here we go, first Vision live blog… and we are off to the climbing first – scores out of 200 for each individual.

12:50:45 PM: York Uni are off to a great start in the climbing. Both B and C teams have won their climbs with totals of 311 and 250 respectively.

12:57:04 PM: Rowing is about to start in the sports centre tent. The Ouse is flooded so the Boat club will be using two rowing machines… classy!

1:35:14 PM: The 4000 metre novice girls and boys has begun – photos should be up soon…

1:38:19 PM: York continue their domination with a win in the mens novice 4000m

1:50:32 PM: The women’s novice 4000m and York Uni win… again!

2:07:11 PM: Latest in the climbing: nine Varsity points for York Uni to York St John’s dismal zero…

2:11:20 PM: Climbing has a bizarre point system. Final score: York Uni 935 – York St John 697. It’s a walk over, or should I say climb over.

2:20:46 PM: Dramatic end to the men’s senior 8000m as York Uni win by less than 5m.

2:23:38 PM: Scrap that – any hopes of a decent contest in the rowing are sunk as York Uni women’s senior squad rinse St John’s by a huge margin.

2:32:49 PM: Everyone’s a winner at the climbing as Terrys Chocolate Oranges are handed out amongst the teams.

3:00:10 PM: Varsity score so far: York Uni 13 – St John’s 0.

3:02:09 PM: Will the Swimming (on at 4pm) keep York St John’s chances of winning afloat? Stay tuned for all the action and yet more water based puns!

3:18:01 PM: According to a source in the gym, the Boat Club caused serious disruption when they strode in and stole the rowing machines…

3:25:16 PM: Further reports suggest that gym goers were still rowing and were carried out aloft on the machines.

3:26:28 PM: York St John’s are now complaining that one of the rowing machines was tampered with beforehand after they capsized during the 8000m.

4:04:52 PM: Check out the full rowing report here: http://www.yorkvision.co.uk/sport/varsity-rowing-whitewash

5:34:40 PM: Finally the swimming begins. No surprise yet again as York Uni win both the Men’s and Women’s backstroke.
8:55:57 PM: Apologies for the lack of updates on the swimming event. Our reporter dropped his phone in the pool!

12:55:31 PM: Good morning/afternoon! Apologies for the late start… long story. Anyway, to Varsity, and York continue to dominate – updates on their way

12:57:27 PM: In the tennis, York Uni looked far superior even in the warm up as St John’s struggled to keep a rally going whilst practising!

1:04:06 PM: In the Women’s Volleyball York Uni took the first set 25-5. My geordie reporter describes York Uni as ‘romping away’

1:04:56 PM: Wow it seems York Uni’s Womens Volleyball team want to get to the pub early for the Carling Cup Final, they take the second set 25-3.

1:07:07 PM: And the Volleyball is all wrapped up, York Uni take the final set 25-5. Yet more Varsity points for York Uni.

1:08:31 PM: Updates from this morning, in the Women’s tennis York Uni dominate winning both doubles matches and all four singles matches.

1:14:54 PM: Both the Badminton men and women bossed St John’s, check out the full report on Vision later.

1:16:23 PM: Overall Varsity Score is now 47.25 to 4.25 to York Uni. To update you on some real contests- Spurs take the lead against Everton with a Roman Pavlyuchenko goal.

1:27:19 PM: Just downloaded a Spotify playlist called ‘Top Tracks since the 60’s’ surely this can’t go wrong. Updates on Football and Hockey coming soon.

1:29:34 PM: Men’s tennis is delayed due to the rain, our reporter is listening to Cliff Richard on his iPod.

1:33:50 PM: Spurs pull away from Everton, as Modric puts them 2 up. Hockey and Football scores are all close, the beginning of a St John’s fightback?

1:36:04 PM: Check out the full story from this mornings action in the Badminton with our in-depth report

1:43:59 PM: Feeder are on my ‘Top Tracks Since the 60’s’ playlist.Disappointing. Women’s hockey is 0-0.York player is sin-binned for a stick tackle, which I’m pretty sure means she just hit someone with a stick.

1:47:16 PM: Ah much better, The Jam- Eton Rifles. And in other news the Nouse office is busy today.

1:50:31 PM: Seems the Hockey match is heating up, a St John’s player joins York’s Hannah Gage in the sin bin.

1:59:22 PM: Half Time in the Hockey and its 0-0. An hour left until kick off in the Carling Cup final. My money is on a 2-1 win for Villa.

2:06:43 PM: Our reporter at the Hockey just sent me a blank update. Sounds like an exciting match.

2:11:34 PM: Men’s doubles tennis is under-way after the rain delay.York’s team is Pete Thompson, Chris McDonald, Brad Hudson and Sam Francis

2:16:15 PM: The fightback begins. St John’s take the lead in the Women’s hockey 1-0.

2:23:44 PM: Strange sights at the sports centre as YorkSport Treasurer Rosamund Wood is spotted greeting people from the comfort of a cardboard box

2:37:17 PM: Women’s Hockey is 1-1. Karen Wallace scores for York St John’s.

2:38:37 PM: York Uni win both men’s doubles matches in the tennis. As the rain begins to pour.

2:41:48 PM: Final score at the women’s hockey and its 1-1, a fair result for an even game.

2:49:41 PM: Still emotionally scared from witnessing such an ill matched contest of Women’s Volleyball Joe McDermott manages to write a full report.

2:57:11 PM: Post match analysis of the women’s tennis, online now.

3:06:31 PM: Controversy at the Men’s tennis, Pete Thompson takes the first set 6-3 but St John’s are complaining the lines are too wet to play on.

3:07:36 PM: Meanwhile Chris McDonald wraps up a straight sets victory in his Men’s tennis singles match. Yet another two Varsity points for York Uni.

3:13:18 PM: News from Joe at the Netball, strangely he was quite keen to cover netball and hockey today, 9-9 after the first quarter.

3:20:39 PM: Drama in the Football 3rd’s it’s 1-1 and St John’s have just had a penalty saved.

3:21:56 PM: The playlist has kept me entertained for long enough, Carling Cup final online, here I come.

3:22:33 PM: Sam Francis is two sets up in the third of the men’s singles tennis games, and it’s so far so good for York Uni at the tennis.

3:30:39 PM: St John’s are 1-0 up in Men’s hockey, but have had a man sent off.

3:32:15 PM: The netball continues to be close, 22-17 as York Uni take a slight lead into half time.

3:41:15 PM: Pete Thompson wins his singles match and York walk away with a clean sweep of the points at the Tennis.

3:46:51 PM: We are back underway at the Hockey and the half time team talk must have been a good one for York Uni, as we equalise after only 5mins

3:51:26 PM: At the end of the third quarter the netball is 35-26 to York.

3:52:21 PM: York have now been declared winners of the Varsity tournament and now have an unassailable 71.75- 11.75 lead. Only the magnitude of victory is now to be decided.

3:55:55 PM: Excitement at the Netball, two goals in quick succession for York St John’s leave York 3-1 down. However, this is unlikely to take too many bubbles out of the York Uni champagne.

4:02:24 PM: 1-1 in the Carling Cup final, but now Rooney has been unleashed my 2-1 Villa win is looking a bit unlikely. Bye Bye bet.

4:03:06 PM: York are looking to come back in the Men’s hockey. they have just hit the crossbar, and are still 3-1 down. ( I didn’t even know there was a crossbar in hockey, but Josh assures me there is)

4:14:27 PM: York Uni complete victories in Women’s Netball and Basketball 1st. York win 45-34 in the Netball and 59-8 in the basketball.

4:30:12 PM: Both men’s football 6-a-side games currently see York Uni 1-0 up.

4:45:27 PM: It’s half time in the 6-a-side football games. York A are winning 1-0, with St John’s B team currently leading York B 2-1.

5:13:03 PM: Football 6-a-side final scores are in- A team is 1-1 and heading to penalties,  B team is 3-2 to York Uni.

5:25:33 PM: Penalties reach sudden death with teams locked at 3-3, York hits the bar and St John’s step up to coolly claim the narrowest of victories

5:35:01 PM: York’s basketballer’s are 73-37 ahead with two minutes to go, it seems the pattern of York Uni domination is to continue right to the end.

5:37:37 PM: Want a riveting tale of destruction and humiliation? Men’s tennis report up now.

5:38:12 PM: Sorry I feel mean for that last post now, to reassert a bit of balance, maybe read the netball report, a much closer contest.

5:52:34 PM: Final Score of 2010’s Varsity Competition is:
University of York 91.25 – York St John University 19.25

5:53:33 PM: Well its been a long, fun day of updates, upsets and ups and downs (genius I know, I told you it’s been a long day), but luckily a lot more up’s that downs for York Uni. Although York dominated from start to finish and the result was never in doubt, Varsity 2010 has produced a weekend of brilliant sport.

  1. I’d like to say, that even though the idea of this being a “Live” blog can quite easily be contested as often it wasn’t, well done for getting this together as it’s about time that Vision stepped up its website content to the kind of stuff that Nouse put out on special events like this. Bravo and let’s keep it coming!
