Books of the BNOCS

TIM ELLIS, UNION PRESIDENT
I’m currently reading a great book called The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes. It is really compelling, and looks at the main character’s relationship with the past and particularly his relationship with a partner during his university years. I would definitely recommend it, it’s written beautifully and is extremely hard to put down.

BOB HUGHES, WELFARE OFFICER
My favourite book is probably Self by Yann Martel. He’s my favourite author and I think this is his best work, which inspired me when I was about 16, because it is wonderfully fantastical, disconcerting and moving, and is like nothing else I have ever read. I’m currently reading Caitlin Moran’s How To Be A Woman, though, and it is the most brilliantly written book I’ve read in ages.

SAM ASFAHANI, SPORTS PRESIDENT
My favourite author is Khalil Gibran, a Lebanese author. I’m always reading his novels, which are translated to English from Arabic. I read a lot of his work growing up and it has influenced the way I am greatly, so I always like re-reading his books. Currently though I’ve decided to finally read George Orwell and have started with some of his earlier stuff. Right now I’m reading Down and Out in Paris and London; pretty good so far.
