Couples looking to attend Coldplay’s concert at Craven Park in Hull later this month have been warned by venue management to watch out, as the band’s infamous kiss-cam looks to be exported out of the US and into Yorkshire.
Last month, a couple caught on the kiss cam during Coldplay’s set in Foxburgh, Massachusetts, was shown in a loving embrace, before awkwardly ducking out of frame once the camera was on them. The pair are heavily rumoured to be Andy Byron, the married CEO of tech start-up Astronomer, and Kristin Cabot, the firm’s Chief People Officer.
The awkward capture, which led frontman Chris Martin to quip: “Either they’re having an affair, or they’re just very shy,” quickly went viral, with both Byron and Cabot resigning from the company. Internet commentators quickly ruled out Martin’s second option.
The band will be supported by Hull-based rapper Cheidu Oraka, who said to the BBC that he would “bring that Hull energy”, adding: “I think that’s why Chris wants me there. I want to make the city proud.”
Hull Kingston Rovers chairman Dr Paul Sewell posted the news on X, saying: “To all those who called this little residency with us a poor spoof: see you there! (or maybe not).”
“To those business sorts bringing their PAs, the ‘Big Kiss Cam’ will feature!!”
The band play in Hull on 18 and 19 August, before heading to London for a 10-day series of concerts at Wembley Stadium.
