Blighted by “technical issues”, the Graduate Student Association (GSA) elections have been extended to allow more people to vote for their representatives.
The GSA is the primary representative body for postgraduate students at the University and a crucial contributor to postgraduate life. The initial election period was initially meant to run until 4pm on Monday November 8.
Voting is now to be extended a further 48 hours, until 4pm on Wednesday November 10. A press release from the GSA stated that the “electronic voting platform” implemented for the elections was subject to difficulties that have now been resolved in conjunction with YUSU and the University Registry.
Kieran Alden, the current GSA Academic Affairs Officer apologised to postgraduates affected by the incompetency of the system.
Of the decision, he said, “it seemed logical to extend.”
Just to clarify, there is no delay in the announcing of the results. Initially voting closed Monday 8th, with results announced the following Friday. Changing the close of voting to Wednesday 10th therefore does not affect our planned Results Night on Friday 12th November.
