YUSU women’s officer resigns

The current YUSU Women’s Officer, Emma Hawkens, has decided to step down from her position.

In an email sent to the rest of the women’s network, Hawkens confirmed that she was “too busy with degree work and applications” to continue in the position at the students’ union and this gave her “little opportunity for effective representation of students.”

One member who is currently overseeing the network, Millie Perkins, told Vision: “It’s a real shame she’s had to step down, but I understand that her degree has to come first. I’m really hoping that whoever fills in the gap can reinvigorate the committee.”

YUSU are currently running a by-election for the position, and students can nominate themselves on YUSU’s website. There has yet to be a student who has announced their candidacy publicly. The nominations are currently open, and will close on Friday 23rd November.
