The fashion world is releasing its tips, trends and newest pieces for AW12 and I’ve been hot on their heels marking down fashionable must-haves for my ‘collection’ (and my readers). I’ve gone from Porter to Provocateur, scoured every magazine and read every press-release during my long lunch hours to find the best things to share.

Net-A-Porter recommends you invest heavily in the ’embellishment’ trend this winter – from clashing patterns to sumptuous fabrics, sequins and embroidery; sticking out is the way to stay ‘in’ this winter.

Media sensations like K-Mid may have brought some glamour back to the well-coiffed look, but this season isn’t about to let grungey chic slide so easy. If you’re looking to cover ‘clashing’ in a ladylike manner make it about your silhouette instead; this fairly gorgeous-but-safe Paul Smith number will look great at lunch with your grandma or paired with Dr Martens in the park.

‘Gypsy’ Print Dress by Paul X (£235, Paul Smith) and Triumph boot by DM (£145, Schuh)

I’ve never been a fan of Mary K so far, but this skirt is positively delicious. It’s luxe, it’s silk, it’s printed, it clashes, it holds you in all the right places… what else could a girl want? I’m not suggesting you pair these two up, but another way of going all out is Vivi W’s new collection for Melissa. It sparkles? Of course it does, and they STILL. SMELL. GREAT!

Printed Silk Pencil Skirt by Mary Katrantzou (£625 @ Net-a-Porter) and Vivienne Westwood Glitter Heels by Melissa (£180 @ Coggles)

Don’t fear for your wallets, my loves, I’ll be supplementing the next few Wednesdays with affordable pieces relating to AW12. I’ve not gone totally mad, but I’m getting there, so I’ll leave you with my cheapest (and favourite) solution to adding some fashionable sparkle into your life.

Glitter Glu, £4 @ John Lewis

It always works for me.

  1. Ok, now you are mocking us. Buying children’s glitter glue to cover our shoes? I know we are students but come on…. I think perhaps buying cheaper shoes would be a better option.
