The former ‘Soft Boys’ frontman graces The Duchess with his majestic presence on Saturday 2nd November. Having been a constantly respected figure in the alternative music scene for the past four decades Robyn Hitchcock’s arrival in York is an event not to be missed. His vast amount of material, released with such bands as The Egyptians and, more recently, The Venus 3, has maintained a consistently high standard. His latest album, A Love From London, released earlier this year, is no exception.

Hitchcock’s very British form of psychedelia incorporates hints of punk, dub and folk whilst sticking to a sturdy, singer- songwriter sensibility. His quirky lyrics depict a surreal take on everyday life, bringing to mind the work of Syd Barrett and Robert Wyatt. The fantasy fuelled lyrics and Hitchcock’s British charm will be made even more special by the intimacy of the venue. The Duchess plays host to a musical legend and what should be an exhilarating yet dreamlike evening.

Expect a range of material, spanning Hitchcock’s output over the past four decades. Tried and tested classics alongside recent tracks will be a welcome combination. The setlist is sure to form the basis of an unforgettable performance from one of Britain’s most talented, and largely understated, songwriters.
