Your:shop’s bestselling NUS meal deal has increased in price from £2.99 to £3.29.
The meal deal is a favourite with York students and is sold in hundreds of NUS registered students’ union shops across the country.
As part of the deal, students can purchase a pre-packed sandwich, crisps and a drink. Previously, the selection was limited to only Walkers crisps, and a small amount of flavoured drinks such as Coca Cola, Ribena and Oasis. However, the price change has brought in an increase in choice, as McCoys crisps are now included in the deal, alongside Dr Pepper, Fanta and Sprite.
A sad second year remarked: “I’m disappointed that the meal deal has gone up, it’s difficult to afford anything as a student. Thank goodness for Mr Sandwich.”
While the NUS lunch has continued to increase in price year on year, the cost of Sunday Carvery, Fish Friday and Wentworth Curry Night, provided by the University’s Commercial Services, has remained the same as last year.
A Commercial Services worker told Vision: “The NUS meal deal has gone up and up each year. We offer better value for money and a far better quality of food – you can have a hot meal for the same price.”
Why did they take diet coke out of the deal?!

Here’s an idea! Buy a loaf and make your own sandwiches. You’ll save a lot more than the price increase here.
Alternatively, just pop over to Charles, where £2.99 gets you a cooked meal. Simples.

when you’re buying a £3 lunch regularly, I doubt an additional 20p is really going to break your bank. you can afford to live adequately as a student provided you’re not a fucking idiot too so that comment is just annoying.

tbh i’d never go unless i had a 3 hour break between lectures. you can wait for chips for 1.5 hours…god knows what’d happen if you dared order lunch.

number 2… 30p is a lot of p.. it could buy you 1/7 of a return into town. It can buy you a very small amount of herb to smoke up.
