Conservative councillor calls for goose cull

gooseConservative councillor George Barton has called for a “humane cull” on geese in York, saying that the number of birds in the city has dramatically increased.

Rumours that Barton, the shadow spokesman for culture in Wheldrake, plans on using the unfortunate victims’ feathers in luxury bedding for himself and his conservative peers are as yet unconfirmed. However, he has stated that: “These geese have multiplied since the breeding season, leaving a foul mess in gardens and pavements and destroying ponds and flowerbeds.

“They are also a threat to children and other people eating ice-cream and crisps, particularly near the Museum Gardens and the Eye of York.”

However, Vision is yet to hear of any ice-cream or crisp related injuries, and the idea of a cull has been met with anger by some York students.

Economics postgraduate Finn McGuire said: “This is awful, it’s just another case of the conservatives picking on the poor and defenceless. If these geese really are stopping kids eating ice cream that can only be a good thing anyway – they’re helping us with our obesity problem.”

A number of students are wholly in support of the cull however. A second-year former James College resident asked Vision: “Can I get involved with the cull? Kill the buggers.”

  1. Give me some bread, a net and a hammer I’ll fucking do it myself!!

  2. What a terribly sad an pathetic attempt at Tory bashing. If a Conservative Councillor in York has called for this what does it have to do with students? We aren’t going to be permanent residents in York and we don’t pay any council towards services in the city. The people of York can do what they want.

A humane cull of water fowl is conducted every few years in the city and on campus anyway. Non-news is student news I guess.
