Clubbing Culture: Vodka Revolution

Vodka Revolution (aka Revs)

The Sunday night destination of pretty much every student in York, Revs rounds off the clubbing week with an impressive pretence at sophistication (girls in heels accompanied by expensive drinks in strange glasses that resemble garden objects characterize it mainly). You will undoubtedly see everyone that you know, whether you want to see them or not. With some good old chart cheese on the bottom floor and something to bring out the rappers among us on the top floor there is plenty to entertain you in different areas, making awkward encounters as easy as possible to avoid repeating throughout the night. With a large smoking terrace and seating area outside it is probably one of the most sociable nights if you do like talking. Keep an eye out for wristbands on sale through some colleges and societies to save you paying the full £3.50 entry which no one needs in their lives.

What you’ll see in your flashbacks: No need for flashbacks. Your whole night will be revealed to you in horrifying detail as the Revs official photos are uploaded onto Facebook over the next forty-eight hours.

The Rev’s-going girl: Having worn fancy dress all week the Revs Girl is desperate to prove that she has a girly side, that it isn’t all cammo, animal print and fresher’s t-shirts in her wardrobe. On arriving at the notorious Revs camera she will gather her friends around her and take ‘the pose’ (one leg forward, slightly crouched as if there is a low ceiling, facing sideways, hand on hip with a head-tilt and for the pros, a J-Lo inspired pout). She will then repeatedly walk up and down the stairs in order to make the most of her legs that are now a good foot longer than normal owing to the disappearance of a few inches of skirt and the addition of some 6 inch heels.

The Rev’s-going boy: Not quite mastering the same pose as the girls, the boys prep themselves with plenty of drinks beforehand (including some cocktails from Blue Fly or Dusk if necessary, both are just up the road) so that by the time they get to the Revs photo they are sufficiently intoxicated for various forms of human towers or human centipede impressions to be acceptable. They will then spend the night scanning the long bars for any Revs Girl that inadvertently became separated from her herd. Alternatively he will position himself at the bottom of the stairs or on the smoking terrace in order to catch any struggling on their Bambi legs and therefore unable to escape.

Most embarrassing Rev’s memory: Thinking I looked incredible in my new KG 6 ½ inch heels, before proceeding to fall over completely, in front of everyone and struggling to get up a bit like a woodlouse on its back. Before being heaved up and doing the same thing five minutes later. Only this time I was walking on my own in a big space so plenty of strangers can stare and no one can prop me up…

Strangest Rev’s memory: Seeing my entire University of York sexual history and most of my York romantic history (don’t judge me, they were the same thing most of the time) lined up along the same bar at the same time. One then pretty much ran away from me. Awkward. Baring in mind there are very few links between each of them was an interesting comparison opportunity.

Famous for: The horrible feeling of dread all the un-photogenic among us go through when we know the photos from the night will be going up on Facebook. Also occasionally having a hot tub. And all the stories that come with that.

Close points of interest: Willow. Just a few doors down…With Oki’s kebabs a few meters down from that. Enough said on a perfect location.

A regular describes Revs in three words: “Everyone’s cover photo”

What to wear: The dress that you bought a bit rashly because you’ve never had something that sparkly or showing that much cleavage. And then realized there was a reason for that. Only night of the week for heels (unless Willow is pre-planned) and this is definitely the place in which to embrace your TOWIE side.

  1. Revs is a joke, girls spend hours getting ready and really putting effort into going to… revs.

Its revolution, just an overpriced bar trying to be a fancy nightclub, at least nightclubs have a proper dancefloor/are actually nightclubs.

tl;dr save your money and go to somewhere good like oceana in leeds

  2. didn’t Revs get done a couple of weeks ago for diluting their alcohol, and handing out water & cokes?
