YUSU Summer Ball Line-Up Announced

The full Summer Ball line-up announced today

This year’s Summer Ball Acts has been announced tonight by YUSU. Among the headline acts, which are all female, is Charli XCX, a singer-song writer who has featured on Iggy Azalea’s ‘Fancy’ and Icona Pop’s hit ‘I Love It’.

The artist has also supported big-hitters such as Coldplay, Paramore and Katy Perry on their world tours.

Playing alongside Charli XCX is grime artist and rapper, Lady Leshurr, who is best known for a series of viral free-styles called Queen’s Speech.

Completing the headlining trio is Becky Hill, a singer-songwriter who rose to prominence after auditioning on the first series of the BBC’s The Voice. Hill reached the semi-final of the competition, and later scored a number 1 single with ‘Gecko (Overdrive)’ in 2014, in collaboration with Dutch DJ Oliver Heldens.

The acts will be supported by house and bass DJ, Danny T, the alternative R ‘n’ B trio, SoShe, York based punk rock band, And the Hangnails, as well as York’s Luuna band.

YUSU Activities Officer, Alex Lusty said: “Everyone at YUSU is tremendously excited to host the biggest Summer ball we’ve ever put on. It’s going to be a huge event and the best way to wrap up your year.

The event, which takes place on the 13th June, is one of the most popular on campus, with nearly 1,000 pledging to attend on Facebook, and around 750 marking themselves as interested.

Alongside the live music line-up, the Students’ Union has said the event will include a “paparazzi red carpet entrance”, professional photos, carnival games and inflatables, a casino and food vans.

Graduating students also have the opportunity to buy a ‘Graduation Dinner and Summer Ball’ ticket which includes a three course meal, a drinks reception in front of Heslington Hall, and early access to the ball’s attractions.

With a silent disco, a casino and two stages of live music, we’re going to literally be rolling out the red carpet for you.”

Early bird tickets have now expired, but general sale tickets are available here.

Students will be entered into a draw for every ticket purchased which gives them a chance to win VIP tickets to see Adele at Wembley.
