Heslington East cash machine to be installed

YUSU president Tim Ellis has announced that plans for the installation of a cashpoint on the University’s Heslington East site have been confirmed.

Ellis, who received written approval earlier today, has been struggling to get endorsement for the plans since September 2011.

The improvement is planned for October 2012, in time for the start of the academic year and the opening of Langwith College.

The machine will be situated next to the new YUSU bar/restaurant, which is set to open at the same time.

Since the move for Goodricke College and the opening of Heslington East in 2009, the cashpoint has been fought for by Ellis, who first addressed the issue in his manifesto during the race for Goodricke Chair in the same year. He commented:

“This is great news, not only for residents of Goodricke and Langwith, but also for all the students and staff that that are based on Hes East. Whilst Hes East has been an amazing place for students to live and work over the last three years, it has always been lacking certain services and it is great to see this changing.

“After lobbying the University for three years over this small issue, students will now have an accessible cashpoint and they will also have a new YUSU-run bar and restaurant to enjoy”.

Third-year student Magnus Tripp, whose subject is based at the Heslington East complex, said: “I don’t really understand how it took three years, but at least it’s happening now. Hopefully it’ll have a better track record than the machines on Hes West!”

  1. Why not get a couple more on Hes West first…. tired of trekking all the way to Costcutter to get some money out. Get with it Cantor

  2. Great. More money and attention being thrown at Hes East while Hes West gets nothing.

We need a cash point back in James College! It is too far away the ones in Vanburgh.

  3. About blood time! Try trekking all the way to Hes West for a cash point.

  4. I always felt sorry for the poor people stuck on Hes East without cash machines, it’s about time they got one. The most ridiculous thing about the Hes West machines is, despite having 4 of them the all knowing administration decided to put them all in the same place. Not good planning.

  5. Lets not bicker, instead i think a congrats to Ellis is in order.Doesnt matter how long it took, the fact that it is happening is all that matters

When the Student Centre is finally finished (supposedly before the end of the academic year) there is going to be a cashpoint there.

  7. Not being funny, but how far do you have to walk to get to an ATM when you’re back at home? More than a few minutes, surely? Grow up Yorkies and get used to the real world. Er, oh and kudos to Ellis for this though!

  8. Bloody hell, grow up some of you! “Boo hoo, look at Hes East getting all the attention…” There are four cashpoints right in the middle of campus, and Hes East don’t have any at all. Complaining money should be spent on you because you can’t be bothered to walk from James to Vanbrugh? Self-entitled knob.
