YUSU has announced that following a by-election, the roles of Accountability and Scrutiny Chair and Volunteering Officer have been filled.

In the election for an Accountability and Scrutiny Chair, Rachel Yeldham was decisively elected against four other candidates.

The position, introduced last October, is tasked with chairing YUSU’s Annual General Meetings and approving election rules.

Yeldham’s 161 votes met the first preferential threshold of 143 votes, and was 120 votes higher than her nearest competitor.

Yeldham will oversee committees of randomly selected students to observe accountability processes, and plans to host termly open meetings with Officers.

She told Vision she was thankful for all those who voted, adding: “I’m really excited to start the role and help YUSU be as organised, honest, and sensitive as possible”.

In the race for Volunteering Officer, Louise MacGregor and Emeric Bareham were voted in against 2 other runners.

They will oversee 16 student-led volunteering projects to provide fulfilling and impactful opportunities for students internally and externally at the University.

Speaking to Vision, the pair said: “We cannot wait to get started and do you proud!”

There were no nominations for the Mature Students’ Officer position, which remains vacant.
