Tory MP drops out of York speech for I’m A Celebrity

Edwina Currie pulled out of an appearance on campus to appear in I’m A Celebrity, it emerged over the weekend.

York Union officials say that the 68-year-old former Conservative MP withdrew from her November 28 talk so she could fly to the Australian jungle.

On Saturday, national media outlets reported that the Strictly Come Dancing star had agreed a ‘last-minute’ deal to appear on the ITV1 programme.

But Edwina is no stranger to reality TV shows, having appeared on Hell’s Kitchen, Wife Swap, Come Dine With Me and Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes.

It is hoped that the former Minister for Health can rearrange her speech.

A spokesperson said they were looking at getting Miss Currie on campus “next term”.

In the jungle, she will be joined by the likes of Tinchy Stryder, Melanie Skyes and Gemma Collins.
