Sinclair Properties Announce £200 Refund for Tenants

According to Sinclair, this goodwill gesture will amount to £250k in refunds to all their student tenants.

On April 16, Sinclair sent an email to tenants announcing eligibility for a £200 refund. All tenants still have the legal responsibility to pay the full amount originally due and to fulfill all other contractual responsibilities. But, if they do, all student tenants that have been with Sinclair Properties since last summer will qualify for a refund.

IG Property and Adam Bennett have not yet offered a similar refund scheme, although individual landlords have offered refunds of their own accord. The landlady of Brooke Davies, a second-year student privately renting with Adam Bennet, has been given a partial deduction from her tenancy agreement as a private gesture of goodwill.

Sinclair Properties’ announcement follows thousands of student rent strikes across the country, including 120 withheld final rent payments in Bristol at the end of March.

Earlier today, the University of York re-opened the Emergency Student Support Fund for the current pandemic. The second round of funding will close at 5pm on Wednesday 22 April.

  1. Hi, I just thought I would clarify one point in your article if I may?
All our tenants still have the legal responsibility to pay the full amount due and to fulfill all other contractual responsibilities but if they do, ALL the student tenants that have been with us since last summer will qualify for a £200 refund. This amounts to our landlords refunding £1/4 million.
