Fresh out of Birmingham and its ever-burgeoning and talented musical scene, Troumaca are a band set to pack out Britain’s many music venues in the near future. In writing, the band seem as if they may have a difficult sound to get along with: they claim they are influenced by Caribbean gospel, while at the same time finding themselves ever-more entrenched in UK bass culture. Although this may sound slightly complicated and one for the more musically literate, they are an interesting and eclectic, band, with their mixing of genres meaning they offer something for a variety of music tastes, rather than alienating any potential punters.

Their single ‘Lady Colour’ is perhaps illustrative of this – a laid-back and soulful piece, it is a song destined for the ‘replay’ button and it will be interesting to see how the band carry it off in a live environment. The opportunity of seeing them at York’s Duchess is not to be missed. See them in one of York’s familiar and intimate settings while you still have the chance.
