New Vice-Chancellor takes office

koenThe new Vice-Chancellor of the University has taken office.

Professor Koen Lamberts succeeds Brian Cantor in the top job following his appointment in March 2013.

A statement by the former deputy vice-chancellor and provost of Warwick University hailed York for its “outstanding teaching and world-class research.”

“In only 50 years, York has forged a reputation in the UK and internationally for its outstanding teaching and world-class research,” Koen said.

He takes over duties from Acting Vice-Chancellor Jane Grenville who was drafted in by the University in October after Mr. Cantor quit early to take up a senior post at the University of Bradford.

Mr. Lamberts was appointed deputy vice-chancellor and provost of Warwick University in February 2012, after joining the institution in 1998 and rising through the ranks of the psychology, research and academic resourcing departments.

Before joining Warwick, Belgian-born Koen completed his studies at the University of Leuven and then lectured at Chicago University and the University of Birmingham.

He was awarded prizes by the Experimental Psychology Society and the British Psychological Society for his theoretical and experimental work on human perception and memory as a cognitive psychologist.
