A student standing for parliament claims she wouldn’t be happy representing her constituency on “67 grand a year” when people are using “food banks”.

Megan Ollerhead, a postgraduate student, is standing in the upcoming General Election for the TUSC in York Central.

Speaking to York Vision, she said she would take a salary but wouldn’t accept the large one offered.

“It’s a matter of principle. I’m not happy about the thought of being on 67 grand a year if the people I’m allegedly representing are having to use food banks,” she said.

“The rest of the money would go towards community causes, trade unions and charities in the area.”

Other policies include bringing in a £10 minimum wage and a crackdown on zero hour contracts.

She said that she was “playing to win” and she understood why people wouldn’t vote.
