Who are they?

The University’s men’s football team is one of the most popular sports clubs on campus, and lived up to expectation last year with a thoroughly successful campaign, being promoted from the Northern 3 B league and being runners up in the Northern conference cup, losing 4-2 to Bangor Firsts. They also provided a dramatic opening showdown at Roses, equalising in the last minute two draw 2-2 with arch rivals Lancaster.

Are they successful?

The club is also one of the largest sports teams at York, with a 2nd, 3rd and 4th team also competing in the BUCS league, with the 2nd team also enjoying promotion from their league Northern 5B, while the 3rd and 4th teams finished 3rd and 2nd respectively in their leagues.

Here’s what they had to say:

Club president Guy Bowden was keen to mention the recent success of the club, telling Vision ‘The University of York Football Club consists of 4 teams that all compete in BUCS Leagues on Wednesday afternoons and train together on Monday and Friday evenings. All four teams had hugely successful seasons last year with the 1st team Cup finalists and league winners and the 2nd team also winning the league’.

‘Like all sport societies at York, team bonding is taking just as seriously for the football club as the results are, ‘the club is not just about succeeding on the pitch as UYAFC socials give all the players the chance to come together on a Wednesday evening for a well-deserved night out, usually to celebrate earlier victories rather than forget a loss’.

‘If you’re interested in representing the University while joining an incredibly talented and sociable group of players, come to the trials held from Monday to Friday during Fresher’s 2-4pm week to showcase your abilities.
