Vision’s College XI

GK – Alex Woolley (Goodricke)

Woolley has had another superlative season for the men in green. Despite his side being bottom of the table, Woolley has still managed to stand out as the best keeper in college football, making our team of the season for the second time in a row.

RB – Luca Castiglione (Derwent 1s & 2s)

Fresher Castiglione has been a revelation at the back for Derwent this season. Able to play all across the backline, Castiglione looks most at home in the right-back berth, using his immense pace to thwart opposition attacks while offering a dangerous option for his team going forward.

CB – Dom McCormick (James)

Boasting the one of the best defences in the league, James’ central defensive partnership of Dom McCormick and Callum Elliott has been terrific this term. Both deserve a mention, but we’ve gone for McCormick based on his composure and technical ability on the ball. Having a defender capable of playing the ball out from the back as well as quelling opposition attacks is a vital combination for a central defender.

CB – Euan Bell (Derwent 1s & 2s)

Bell, coming off an indifferent first season for Derwent, has looked solid at the back for both Derwent teams this term. Using his size to shrug attackers off the ball, he is also strong in the tackle and able to play out well from the back. He has scored numerous, important goals this season, although ‘luscious volleys’ are still beyond him, no matter what you might have heard.

LB – Andriy Tabas (Vanbrugh)

New year, new haircut, new player. After a severe trip to the barbers Tabas has progressed as a player and is on his way to becoming one of Vanbrugh’s key men. He ran the game in Vanbrugh’s thrashing of James College, and also possesses a thunderous right peg.

CM – Jack McConnell (Alcuin)

Making our team of the season for the second time running, McConnell has certainly earned his place again. Not only able to shield his backline from oncoming attacks, McConnell also provides that important link between defence and attack. His recent MotM performance in Alcuin’s draw with James cemented his place in this team.

CM – Ralph Gill (James)

Having operated at centre back, central midfield and off the striker this term, Ralph Gill is undoubtedly one of the most well-rounded players in the league. We’ve decided to make him our holding midfielder not only for his defensive abilities, but because of his tendency to pick the ball up from deep and drive at the opposition’s midfield. His dribbling and passing often mean he’s at the centre of some of James’ best work going forward.

RW – Andrew Jopson (James)

Jopson has been key to James’ improvement in the goals department this term, netting eight himself and often supplying the equally prolific Matt Singleton and Rob Carr. Capable of operating off the striker or on the right wing, Jopson’s dribbling ability and intelligence to drag defenders out of position has been vital to the Black Swan unlocking sides set up to defend resolutely against the title chasers.

CAM – Jack Parsonson (Langwith)

Despite a frustrating start in first term Jack Parsonson has undergone something of a renaissance in second, providing the assured presence in the centre of the park required to build attacking moves. The Langwith revival isn’t complete yet but it wouldn’t be where it is today without this man.

LW – Garo Heath (Halifax)

Despite Halifax’s underwhelming performances so far, Heath has again shone for his team. His pace and quick feet pose a problem for any defence and a game in which Heath does not score is a rare occurrence. The ‘Fax skipper is another who makes our team for the second time running.

STR – Rob Nicholson (Derwent 1s & 2s)

A player making our team of the season for the second term running, Nicholson has again found his prolific goalscoring form for the men in black and blue. In the running for league top scorer, Nicholson’s deadly touch in front of goal was illustrated by a weekend in which he scored twice for the 2nds on Saturday, before going on to claim a hat-trick for the 1sts on the Sunday.

  1. Hey it’s me Euan Bell. I just wanted to say thanks for picking me. It’s accolades like this that give me the drive to push myself harder on the pitch and in the gym. I am speechless. Thank you so much!
