Campaign in three words: Representing student opinions.


What’s the most important part of your manifesto?

Wanting to increase communication between all three senate reps and the course reps. This would allow us to effectively gather the views and opinions of students from all departments and subjects.

How do you differ from the other candidates?

My experience on the Derwent JCRC – I was LGBT rep in my first year and am the current Male Welfare rep.

What was your favourite thing the previous officer did and why?

Increasing the amount of bursaries for postgraduate students.

What’s the most important thing about the role you are going for?

The most important thing about Senate Rep is that it gives students a voice on academic matters at the highest level. It ensures that the opinions of students

How are you campaigning?

Facebook, posters, etc. All the traditional methods.

What do you like the most about York?

The collegiate system. I’ve made some of my best friends through being a part of Derwent. Being part of a college is a great way to make friends outside of your accommodation block and your course.

What’s the best slogan you can think of for your campaign?

It’s rather boring, but the best I’ve managed to come up with is “Vote Tom for Senate Rep!” (My housemate however made the incredibly cheesy suggestion of changing “Senator” into “Senatom”…)

What do you think about York Vision?

I will be forever grateful to Vision for confirming that Willow isn’t closing down; the prospect of it doing so stopped me from sleeping for weeks!
