Snow Way! Online stampede to see veteran broadcaster

jon_snowThere was an online stampede to get a glimpse of a veteran broadcaster last night.

Tickets to see Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow were snapped up by students within hours of them going live.

The journalist, who is visiting as part of the York Union events, will speak on Iran, the United States and other current affairs at the Bowland Auditorium in the Berrick Saul Building next Friday.

But some have questioned the timing of the event, with Mr. Snow due to speak in the morning rather than the afternoon.

Harry Scoffin, a member of the York Union Executive Committee, told Vision: “The morning was the only time Jon Snow could do. He has to be back in London to anchor the Channel 4 News.”

His visit has sold out faster than yesterday’s talk by former Downing Street Press Secretary Alastair Campbell – whose announced appearance prompted a one day rush for tickets.

A spokesperson for the York Union said: “The main batch of tickets sold out on Friday evening. Our thanks go out to those who secured them and the Communications Office once again for the help in putting the event in their weekly public lectures series email.

“We will release some more tickets next week. The best way to find out when they go on sale is by keeping an eye on our Facebook page and the Facebook event.”

There is a suggested donation of £2 from students and £4 from members of the public to cover the costs of the event, which is one in the latest by the York Union since its founding in 2013.
