Michael Duncan elected Vanbrugh Chair

Michael Duncan has been elected Vanbrugh JCRC chair for 2014.vanbrugh

Duncan, despite the very competitive line-up of Luke ‘Texas’ Guillory, Emily Watson, George Lane, Luke Flinders, Michael Duncan and Victoria Bettney, sailed through on 189 votes.

Turnout for the chair position was 419.

Duncan’s focus on student experience and accessibility, promising to visit every kitchen, seems to have won him many supporters. His strong support for sports teams and desire for more and better sponsorship proved a winner, staving off the fierce competition provided by second place George Lane.

Duncan further promised to use his previous JCRC experience as a block rep to make the best Vanbrugh chair possible. He emphasised his dedication to Vanbrugh, promising never to run for YUSU or other society positions, and highlighted the success of the Vanbrugh Discounts Scheme which he started.

Other contested positions include Welfare Vice-Chair where Rachel Bates with, 188 votes, beat off Daniel Swift and Entertainment and Service Vice-Chair where Chris Morris fought off Benjamin Turner and Felicity Jane Hill with his 132 votes.

Notable elections included the re-election of Mollie Staples for LGBTQ Welfare rep, beating opponent Ben Young by only 7 votes.

The turnout was very impressive and shows a continuing interest in JCRC politics, with all candidates raising hopes for a successful year ahead.

Luke Guillory didn’t even stand as chair. He pulled out well before voting.
