Labour leadership hopeful Corbyn to speak in York

UPDATE: The venue has been forced to upgrade and will now be held at the Events Centre in the Royal York Hotel, not on campus.

A Labour leadership candidate is planning to speak in York in the run up to Labour’s leadership election.

Jeremy Corbyn is set to talk at the Royal York Hotel from 2pm-3:30pm, after travelling up from Doncaster where he is holding a Q&A session that morning.

The talk is scheduled to take place on Saturday August 8.

The talk was originally going to be held at the Jack Lyons Concert Hall on campus but the venue has been upgraded due to demand.

Corbyn’s policies broadly include rejecting austerity, combatting economic inequality, and according to a spokesperson are “based on justice, freedom, solidarity and equality for all”.

His campaign has gathered momentum with bookmakers and pollsters putting him ahead of Andy Burham, Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall, the other main contenders.

A 3rd year politics student said: ‘It’s a fantastic opportunity to see Jeremy advocate radical and modern policies to challenge the doctrine of constant austerity and in the process inspire and engage young people with a message of hope.’

The full address for the location of the talk is: Events Centre, Royal York Hotel, York Station, YO24 1AA.

Those wanting to attend will soon be able to RSVP on an event here.
