Jess Glynne would Rather Be anywhere but York: Act pulled from Summer Ball lineup

Jess Glynne was set to headline YUSU’s “biggest event of the year”.

Jess Glynne will no longer be headlining this year’s Summer Ball, YUSU today announced.

The ‘Hold My Hand‘ singer has had to cancel gigs at universities across the country after clashes with other commitments with her upcoming album release.

Students have had a mixed response to the announcement, with some students hoping for a better act to fill the gap.

However, disappointed first year archaeology student Freya said: “I was quite looking forward to watching her live so I don’t understand why she’s pulled out at such short notice.

“Surely she knew she had to do stuff for her album, which I won’t be buying anyway.”

The end-of-year party is set to feature a casino, funfair, silent disco, giant inflatables and two stages of live music.

YUSU President Sam Maguire said: “We are really gutted to lose a high profile act like Jess Glynne, we are committed to finding a replacement of a similar high calibre and are working hard to do so.

“Regardless of act, Summer Ball is still going to be the best it has ever been.”

Several students have suggested Azeem, whose flute recital caused a sensation among UK university students earlier this month, should replace the redheaded singer.

Other artists set to play at the summer bash so far include Wilkinson, Eliza and the Bear, and DJames.

In a Facebook post to the event page, the students’ union said: “We’ve just been informed by Jess Glynne’s agent that she is no longer able to headline our event.

“Due to other commitments with her upcoming album release, she has had to cancel numerous university gigs.

“We’re really disappointed and we know a lot of you will be too, but unfortunately the situation is beyond our control.

“We’re working on an awesome new headliner and will update you all as soon as possible.”

  1. I’m not half as bothered by this as much as I am by the tragedy that is the concept of “Celery and Apple Parfait” as a starter at the Graduation Dinner, and a main that consists of a bit of chicken dumped on some rice. SO glad I paid £65 for this extravaganza. Bloody hell.
