Campaign in three words: “Harness the opportunity”

Bio

As Chair of YSTV, I increased member engagement and learnt the ins and outs of YUSU societies and have seen first hand the great events that are put on.

I’ve also been Secretary and Treasurer of MagicSoc, now a growing, successful society that is putting on big events such as getting external speakers from the USA. Plus, I’ve spent the week dressed as Pudsey for Children In Need!

I love the opportunities I’ve had as part of these societies and across the board, and I want to ensure every York student can too make the most of their time here.

What’s the most important part of your manifesto?

I want to engage with what students need and find exciting yet practical ways to fulfil them. Bouncy castles during exam season for stress relief or bringing people tea and coffee in the library for donations for RAG, volunteering to help students as well as the wider world, and engagement of societies on Heslington East.

How do you differ from the other candidates?

I know what it takes to succeed and I have very obtainable policies which will do a world of good for students whilst making every other University jealous of what’s going on at York. I’ve held all three signatory positions for a society as Chair of YSTV as well as Treasurer and Secretary of MagicSoc, which I brought back from being nearly extinct last year.

What was your favourite thing the previous officer did and why?

At the start of the year there was very comprehensive Societies training, providing a lot of opportunities for societies to learn how they can grow. I would look to keep this going whilst moulding it a little more based on the feedback given.

What’s the most important thing about the role you are going for?

Bringing the exciting element to student life. University is about working and getting a degree, but there is an amazing opportunity to do what you never get to do again and Student Activities Officer is about providing the support for people to organise these things.

How are you campaigning?

I’ll be trying to talk to as many people as possible and otherwise primarily getting my message across through Facebook found at bit.do/bringonthewall.

What do you like the most about York?

The range of societies we have means you get the opportunity to do almost anything, I want to keep encouraging that.

What’s the best slogan you can think of for your campaign?

Bring On The Wall!

What do you think about York Vision?

I just wish they’d stop putting photos of Tom AC naked in it.
