An announcement today, ensure students that the assessment boycott for the 6th May will be cancelled.
The University and College Union, who fight for fair pay in education for college and university staff, have nationally voted to accept the 2014 pay offer, 2%, just above inflation rates.
This offer would be for the 2014/2015 teaching year.
The Higher Education Committee agreed to ballot the decision, which ended on the 1st May. This brings the 2013 dispute to an end from the UCU.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor, John Robinson, told students in an email; ‘all assessments and examinations will, therefore, proceed as normal’.
The boycott that was initially going to take place was due to the UCU unsatisfied with debates concerning the slashes in lecturers’ pay. This boycott would have taken place over the course of the summer examinations, causing disruption and chaos to students and their exams.
This would have concerned formal marking of essay marking, dissertations and assignments from the assigned date of the 6th May.
Staff would have persuaded pupils to ‘contact the Vice Chancellor or Principal to raise the impact of the dispute on their studies’.
As estimated, the result from the votes from the UCU has lead to early settlement, just in time for exams minimizing any effect on students.
