Final Plans Announced For Women’s Football Week Festival

Earlier this term, University of York Women’s Football club announced that the club and the university had been chosen to host BUCS national women’s football festival, an event hoping to raise the ever growing popularity of Women’s football as well as raise as much money as possible for BUCS charity partner Marie Curie. This week, the club announced the final details for the event, taking place on March 6th, which they are very excited to host, having been chosen above other sporting university’s such as Loughborough and Leeds Met.

The first part of the day will see several speakers take to the stage in the Ron Cook Hub to speak about leadership and involvement of women in sport. The speakers will be, BUCS CEO Karen Rothery, York sport president Cass Brown, Paratriathlete and Deloitte Manager Clare Cunningham, and Jo Drapier who is Community Manager for Sport England and This Girl Can Campaign. Then finally Kyla Collins from Marie Curie Cancer care and UYWAFC president Ellie Whittaker, whose fundraising work helped the decision for York to host the event.

In the later afternoon, the club has invited 100 local school children, as well as all students to come to the university to get involved in the day, with coaching by players from the Women’s super league, York City LFC and UYWAFC coaches.
