Preview: BEATS for Worldwide Cancer Research

BEATS

As exams grow ever more imminent, we are all looking forward to planning our slightly less imminent freedom. For those who have already exhausted all of York’s mainstream club nights, BEATS provide you with a fresh alternative, with the added bonus of a great cause. This timely arrival for post-exam de-stress is being hosted by Alex Urquhart and Christian Walsh on the 30th of May. The pair have created a unique event in aid of a worthy cause: the first non-profit Derwent event, all for Worldwide Cancer Research.

The night itself will not disappoint with four DJs spanning four hours, mixing up the vibe with an eclectic combination of genres and sounds including, house, deep house, groove, garage and old skool.

Removing itself as much as possible from the other repetitive and generic nights you might choose to brave post-exams, Beats is implementing a strict ‘wavey garms’ policy, with prizes for the best (or worst) dressed. This gives you artistic allowance to keep on your mismatched, pyjama-style revision wear, don an outlandish hat and be ready to go.

With one last bribe (free ice lollies every hour and potentially space hoppers), I leave you with the link to buy tickets: http://zentry.co/tickets/53569. As there are only 160 spaces in the Derwent squash courts this is a pretty special event that will sell out fast.
