Winter Warming Drinks

As it’s coming to that time of year, what better way to get warm than with some festive winter warmers. Great for cozying in your freezing student houses, here are some great ideas to keep your insides warm!

Mulled Wine

You could easily make mulled wine yourself, simply add:

1 bottle red wine
60g/2oz demerara sugar
1 cinnamon stick
grated nutmeg
1 orange, halved
1 dried bay leaf

And warm on the stove, to get that perfect festive taste!

On the other hand you can buy a bottle pre-made from Sainsburys or Co op, for about 3.50 per bottle!

Baileys Hot Chocolate

For when you want to splash out for chocolate and alcohol goodness, mix together:

50cl Baileys (has to be first)
Hot Chocolate power and milk
Whipped Cream on top!

Spiced Pumpkin Latte

We’ve all heard of the famous Starbucks creation, however doing it at home can be just as easy!

Milk
Pumpkin Puree
Sugar
Cinnamon
Vanilla Extract
Coffee
Whipped Cream

Mix the milk, pumpkin puree, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla essence in a bowl, cover the bowl with cling film and pop a small hole.
Microwave until the milk is hot, 1 to 2 minutes.
Then whisk the mixture until foamy.
Pour the coffee in to the bottom of a mug then mix the pumpkin mixture in.
Top with whipped cream.

Warm Bourbon Cider

A twist on the Christmas mulled cider.

apple cider
ground cinnamon
ground nutmeg
ground ginger
bourbon (e.g Jim Beam)

Mix all ingredients, bar the bourbon, on the stove until hot.
Lastly add the bourbon, mix and divide!

Hot Cranberry Punch

A non-alcoholic punch full of great ingredients to beat those winter blues

cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
3 pears, chopped into bite-size pieces, divided
2 quarts apple cider
1 lemon, halved and sliced
1 tablespoon ground spices
1 cup fresh cranberries
2 tablespoons vanilla extract

Mix all ingredients on a simmering stove and enjoy in big hot mugs, perfect for those cold exam mornings!
