Angus Quinn’s Guide to Perfect Skin

Perfect skin is something everyone is aspiring to, and at university it becomes an awful lot harder to keep up due to a steady diet of alcohol, sugary mixers, calorific pot noodles and tonnes of takeaway. I am as guilty of it as anyone, and for people like me who tend to suffer with acne, university has a tendency to send it spiralling out of control. Fortunately I have a few tips that are sure to ready your skin for the onslaught and stop spots in their tracks.

A face scrub can be an easy remedy for any spottiness first thing in the morning, and is perfect because you can just slap it on while you’re showering before dashing off to a seminar or a lecture, they’ll also shock you out of a hangover if you need to be looking fresh for an early morning presentation. Clearasil Vitamins & Extracts Face Scrub 150ml smells fab and is a real bargain. If you feel like splashing out though, The Body Shop’s Seaweed Pore-Cleansing Exfoliator leaves skin looking and smelling amazing and will leave you feeling completely replenished as though you didn’t sink those six back-to-back sambucas the night before.

Moisturiser is a must have product for your toiletries bag! This isn’t a face specific thing either, moisturising all over makes your skin feel silky and smooth, and applying it is quite therapeutic, whether you prefer to do it before bed, or just before you rise. I prefer to use E45, as it’s not perfumed so you don’t smell once you’ve put it on, and it’s also amazingly cheap, a 500ml bottle of the lotion from Superdrug only costs £5.99! If you’re feeling indulgent though go for some of Lush’s Skin Drink, it has a gorgeous creamy texture and if you have dry skin will be just what the Doctor ordered! skindrink

As well as a day-to-day remedy a weekly face-mask can do wonders, and while you could probably knock one up at home, when Superdrug sells amazing ones for 99p why bother? The Apricot Exfoliating, Dead Sea Purifying and Yoghurt Smoothie masks will give a real glorious lift to face, won’t leave you looking shiny and also smell good enough to eat…though I wouldn’t recommend that.

For that other common skin problem – tired eyes, there are a few sneaky products that will give you a lift and won’t leave you looking like you’ve pulled an all-nighter to finish your essay on time. Anatomicals No Old Bags Allowed Eye Gel will meet your needs in a pinch, but if you want a long-term solution to sleepy eyes then I’d invest in some of Olay’s Total Effects Eye Transforming Cream. If you’re putting in a lot of late nights and following up with early mornings this should banish the bags and diminish the dark circles, leaving you looking like you’ve had an amazing night’s sleep.
