YUSU unveil new societies’ mascot – SOCTOPUS

Chris Wall reveals YUSU’s latest venture.

YUSU have released a bizarre new initiative, where societies apply to spend time with a TOY OCTOPUS.

The students’ union hope societies will email in, specifying what they want to do with Soctopus, the orange mascot.

Successful requests will get Soctopus, a camera to record their time with the aquatic creature, and access to a Twitter account where societies will also document their time with the octopus.

In a launch video on YUSU’s official YouTube account, Student Activities Officer Chris Wall held the orange mascot while he encouraged societies to get involved with the scheme.

He said: “The societies mascot, Soctopus, is a really exciting way to promote societies.”

He also revealed that the society judged to have had the best account of what happened with the octopus will win an as yet unspecified cash prize at the end of the year.

The best videos with Soctopus will also be screened at the YUSU Awards.
