N-Dubz Pull Out of Summer Ball

Headline act for YUSU Summer Grad Ball is a no-show once again.

The headline act for YUSU’s Summer Ball has pulled out at the last minute, after not turning up to the event.

N-Dubz were originally signed to perform a 45-minute set at Wednesday night’s end-of-year celebration. The band’s withdrawal from performing at the event follows a line of similar instances, including headliners Wiley and the Noisettes pulling out of the Freshers and Summer Balls of 2009 respectively.

This year’s Ball was also attended by Scott and Abs of 5ive, Chew Lips and Little Comets. Entertainment was also provided by YUSU societies including Cheesy Pop Soc and Comedy Soc.

Students were informed during the event at 11pm of the decision, which Vision understands to be the result of a lack of contact or communication between YUSU and N-Dubz.

At the time of writing, YUSU representatives were unavailable for comment.

Tickets for the Summer Ball failed to sell out despite being sold for many weeks in the build up to the event, following Democracy and Services Officer-elect Dan Walker’s decision to not hold next year’s Fresher’s Ball at the York Racecourse, reported on by Vision earlier this week. Students were able to opt to attend the party only, or a meal as well.

One graduand spoke to Vision, saying that they felt it was “ridiculous that the headline act has pulled out of YUSU’s flagship event, again. Tickets for the Ball were so expensive and the fact we can’t see the band we were promised, again, is a problem.”

However, it is still to be seen whether the withdrawal of the band was down to event organisers or N-Dubz themselves.

It is yet unclear as to whether or not YUSU will pursue legal action.

Disgraceful. I didn’t expect much from N-Dubz but this is absolutely outrageous. Really hope YUSU take a stand against this otherwise York will just be walked over time and time again by selfish and egotistical idiots who clearly don’t give a toss about anybody but themselves.

If we didn’t want selfish and egotistical idiots then why did we contract N-dubz?? that just seems sort of self contradicting

  • Noah and the Whale, Freshers Ball 08.
    Noisettes, Summer Ball 08.
    Wiley, Freshers Ball 09.
    N-Dubz, Summer Ball 09.

What do they all have in common…?

It is ridiculous that this has happened, again.

N Dubz have promised to attend Hull and other institutions and also failed to turn up. These bands appear to be a law unto themselves. At the end of the day if the bands are making enough money they can afford to simply pull out of gigs they are just not keen on. Its crap, but they know that the wrath Nouse and Vision plus a lawsuit from YUSU are not sufficient to dent their business model. It’s crap, but that’s life. Without some major change in the law, or some form of cross university co-operation when it comes to pressuring labels and managers to make good on their promises these disappointments will continue.

the whole event was terrible. the rides were the only thing of any value and certainly weren’t worth my £75. well done for managing to produce so many meals….but did it have to taste like crap or chew like boots? red carpet = joke, paparazzi = rip off, chocolate fountain = £5 novelty gift from argos, casino = tables could barely stand up let alone the croupiers, alcohol = one extreme or the other – too expensive or tasted like toilet water, entertainment = non-existent (although I did have a good bop along to 2wo)….all in all it was an absolute joke. it was a waste of time, money, energy and a clean shirt. I will be advising others not to bother with YUSU events and stick to the guys who can actually put an event together like Derwent. Hang your heads YUSU, you’ve ripped me off for the last time.
