Controversial Conservative MP Edwina Currie to speak on campus

A CONTROVERSIAL Conservative MP who sparked fury over claims that eggs contained “salmonella” is to speak at the university.
Edwina Currie, 68, is to address students in a special speech on November 26.
In the 1980s, she resigned from her position as Minister for Health after she claimed in a television interview that most of Britain’s egg production was infected with “salmonella bacteria”.

Currie speaks on a panel at a European Youth Parliament Event.

According to sources inside the York Union, who are arranging the event, there is “strong” interest in the former MP for South Derbyshire’s appearance.
Callum Elliott, the Director of the York Union, and Maria Fazio, a committee member, will interview her. Questions will also come from the audience.
A spokesperson said: “Edwina Currie is known for being outspoken and honest.
“We hope that she doesn’t hold back in her evening in York with us and we get to see what made her such a protagonist as a Tory MP for 14 years.”
