University of York Amnesty Society are working with local Amnesty members to host its first ever charity ball for Amnesty International.

The event has been labelled as ‘crowd-funded’, with the two groups working together to encourage members of the local community to help reach its needed total.

Based in a secret city centre location, the Secret Masquerade Ball promises to take place May 31.

Peter White of the Secret Masquerade Ball committee said: “We have the potential to do something incredible. With the full support of York, we can bring together the community to champion the fundamental right to freedom of expression and protect the innocent from atrocities worldwide.

By simply wearing a mask for one night, we draw attention to and expose human rights abuse and show our support for a more just world.”

The Secret Masquerade Ball takes place only if the York community pledge support before the April 27.

Amnesty International is an international human rights organisation with more than three million supporters worldwide.
